Do you recommend any books or DVD’s for those interested in learning more about photography on their own?

Yes!  I love the following books, and read them often!  Any  level of photographer can benefit;)

GENERAL PHOTOGRAPHY:

The Digital Photography Book 1: How to Make Your Photo’s Look Like the Pro’s by Scott Kelby

The Digital Photography Book 2: How to Make Your Photo’s Look Like the Pro’s by Scott Kelby

*Review:  As you can tell, I LOVE Scott Kelby’s books.  He has a light and humorous writing style that is easy to follow and understand.  He never gets bogged down in technical jargon and basically tells you exactly what to do to achieve a certain result.  I’m not the type of person that stays interested in reading if something starts to feel like a user manual or encyclopedia.  Kelby’s books are fun to read and you learn A LOT;)

Understanding Exposure Revised Edition: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a film or Digital Camera by Bryan Peterson

Understanding Shutter Speed: Creative action and Low-Light Photography Beyond 1/125 Second by Bryan Peterson

POST PRODUCTION/EDITING/PHOTOSHOP:

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby

The Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby

Layers: The Complete Guide To Photoshop’s Most Powerful Feature by Matt Kloskowski

LIGHTING (using Artificial Light):

One Light DVD

*Review:  Zach Arias is a genius with using artificial light (i.e. flash).  In similar style to Kelby, Zach explains how to use off camera lighting in a way that is easy to understand and free of all the techno jargon.  An absolute great resource for those interested in adding drama to their photography or learning how to use their flash off camera.  Not knowing anything at all about flash photography, and after watching this only one time, I felt confident in going out and using flash in manual mode immediately and knew exactly what equipment I wanted to invest in and WHY… This DVD will get several more previews!

Photography Business:

Fast Track Photographer by Dane Sanders

Creating Customer Evangelists by Ben/ Huba, Jackie McConnell

7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnege
