About Brooke

Welcome!  If you have navigated all the way here to find out more about me, then I’m completely honored!  My name is Brooke Snow (obviously) and I love my name!  I also love my husband for having such a great last name to go so nicely with mine!  And I just plain love my husband;)  He’s my best friend and biggest fan!  In November 2009 we welcomed a perfectly delightful happy baby boy into our lives.  I like being a mom MUCH MORE than I expected! It’s the most amazing adventure I have ever embarked upon!

MY LIFE/INTERESTS

Aside from photography, my degrees and training lie in music composition.  I guess you could say, I love to “create”, whether its visually or musically.  When I’m not doing photography or music you can find me road biking, mountain biking, hiking, blogging, or writing silly children’s songs to zip up the mundane things of life!

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

So how did I get to this point in my career?  People often ask if I went to school.  I smile and say, “Yes, I did! Just not in photography!”  I have a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music.  Nearly 8 years of intense education!  I have to give myself credit for that!  So where does the photography training come in?

While in Graduate School, I took up photography to give myself a break from the intensity and narrow focus of my program.  I had been shooting about a year on my own, when I met Dustin Fife, a professional photographer who was looking for a piano teacher! We arranged a wonderful lesson swap. I taught Dustin weekly piano lessons and he taught me private photography lessons for eight wonderful months!

This was the perfect learning opportunity for me!   Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to attend workshops and training from other wonderful photographers in the industry and can’t express enough gratitude to these wonderful individuals for sharing their skills and taking the time to help educate me in the field.

I believe in photography education.  My experience with many great instructors has made a complete difference in my approach to my camera, my artistry, and my confidence.  As such, I believe in helping to educate others to be able to have similar experiences.  Please check out my photography classes for varied opportunities for learning, as well as follow my photography blog for weekly tips and tricks to improve your own photography!

MY STYLE

I consider myself a “Lifestyle Photographer”.

What is that?

Lifestyle photography focuses on artistically capturing real life.  Its a non-traditional approach that appears un-posed and carefree–though achieving such work takes a bit more orchestration than just showing up and having people suddenly act natural!  Although I love lifestyle “candid” shots above all others, many of my candid shots are actually posed!  I believe a good photographer not only captures those fleeting moments, but has the ability to create them as well. I give all my subjects A LOT of posing direction, even when creating  carefree and candid portraits.  You are never left feeling unnatural or awkward.

I take much inspiration from lifestyle magazines and seek to have my work hosting a flavor of that editorial magazine feel.  We work quickly, and create a variety of images that are both editorial/lifestyle in feel, as well as artistic, and a few traditional ones for good measure.
