Family Life Project 52

What is the Family Life Project 52?

Well, a 52 week project involves taking at least one photo every week of the year. Many 52 weeks projects are centered around fun themes to prompt creativity. The Family Life Project 52 is as well, only it is family oriented, and created with the intent of documenting the beauty of the every day aspects of family life we often overlook. At the end of the year you have 52 weeks of family fun to share in an ablum!

Week One of every month focuses on a room in the house.
Week Two of every month focuses on a relationship.
Week Three of every month focuses on season/times of day.
Week Four of every month focuses on details.

You can view the entire project HERE.

Do you need any special photo gear?

All you need is a camera, unless YOU want to be in the pictures too! (Which you should!)

I have found the following items to be amazingly helpful in making it possible for ME to prove I exist with this family as well!

  • Tri-pod.  I used to have a basic cheapo tri-pod.  It really tempted me to take up the habit of cussing.  I told myself I didn’t need a nice tri-pod because I was a lifestyle photographer who moved around too much to be tied to a tri-pod.  Then I bought a nice professional one and my life changed. I now believe in tri-pods in a major way! I use mine All. The. Time. I use this Manfrotto Tripod plus this Manfrotto Ball Head attachment. (You need both.)  It makes me happy and keeps my language clean and pure :)
  • Timer.  Most camera’s have some type of timer function, but let me tell you about the Nikon D7000 timer function. Its AMAZING!  I love this super tiny awesome feature, because it lets me set the timer to take not just one, but up to 9 shots each time it is set to go!  This means that we can play and have fun, interact, all while shots are being fired and not have to administrate each shot one at a time.  I’m sure other camera’s likely have a similar function as well, but this is one of my favorite features of this camera!
  • Remote. I purchased the AmazonBasics Wireless Remote Control for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras for $10. It’s amazing. My son loves to get the privilege of triggering the camera from the remote and it helps to make the photo time special and fun.
