What does a Solo Beloved session look like?

After discovering Beloved for couples and families, I was eager to find out if I could use this technic working with just one person in a session.  Part of what makes Beloved so fascinating with couples and families is the ease in which true authentic emotion surfaces because they have someone else (whom they love and are comfortable with) to interact with. Much of the amazing emotion in those images is a result of the relationships and connections that are already built between them.

That all changes when you only have one person.  In a MAJOR WAY.  The interaction is more between the photographer and the subject.

But I’m happy to report that not only is it possible, but it’s just as much of an incredible experience as the other types of Beloved sessions.  Rewarding on so many levels.

If this type of photography interests you, come join me in my Advanced Pro photography course! We filmed this entire session and it is now one of the live sessions featured in the course!  You’ll get to see the behind the scenes prep and see the interaction between me and Holly that leads to each fabulous shot.

  1. Love these images and as a senior photographer I am totally interested in how you did this. I’ve been toying with learning how to do the beloved sessions but frankly I don’t do many families or children or couples. I mostly do seniors and an occasional family.

      1. Hi Susan!

Thanks so much for your comment on my blog! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the images and it sounds like you have a special interest in Seniors as well! Awesome!

Shooting in a beloved style has completely changed the way that I approach photography and has yielded me so much more emotion in my shoots–and has made the session itself very meaningful and fun. Using this technic with Seniors was a little experiment of mine that I found very different than working with groups or couples, but totally awesome at the same time! It is most certainly a practiced skill–just like everything else in photography, but is an absolute amazing resource and worth the practice in every way!

My next Advanced Pro course will be a self study version since I’m taking July off. The regular version of the course with feedback on all assignments will resume in August. You can find all that info HERE.

I’d love to have you join us! Please let me know if you have any further questions!

        Delightfully,

  2. Love these images, Brooke! What a beautiful girl – and you’ve captured her in a way that makes my heart feel happy. And, I mean, what better complement is there than, “your pictures make me happy.” Yeah, you’re that awesome.

  3. These are gorgeous images… I am familiar with the Beloved Session concept but had never thought about doing it solo… I am intrigued…
